Introducing Dwarf Palmetto the namesake of Dwarf Palmetto Design
The Dwarf Palmetto (Sabal minor) is a highly undervalued palm native to the United States. This palm species is the most widespread occurring palm in this country. It grows in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, North and South Carolina and Florida where it is found growing in swamps, floodplains, riverbanks and hardwood forests. In the landscape, it is able to thrive in a more diverse array of environmental conditions. It can be grown in full sun to full shade, tolerate drought to flooding, avoid the stress of variable soil acidity or alkalinity and survive temperatures down to -5F. It is also disease and pest resistant. The unique growth habit of this species, a subterranean stem or trunk, can also allow it to survive in cases of complete above ground destruction of leaves. The beauty and adaptability of this native palm species is the inspiration for Dwarf Palmetto Design, which aims to provide beauty and adaptability to all created landscapes for its clients .
